The champion team Surrey ended their season-long drought for championship wins when they defeated Somerset by eight wickets at The Kia Oval. Surrey made their first County Championship win of the season possible after they displaced Somerset for 39-7 in the second innings. Dan Worrall (3-16) alongside Jordan Clark (3-24) went on to spearhead the attack – all with Clark finishing the match with a stunning eight wickets.
Somerset, desperate to avoid an innings defeat, saw Migael Pretorious hammer a quick 54 off 45 balls. Still, Surrey needed only 36 runs to win, a target they chased down in just 5.2 overs. But Rory Burns (20 not out) and Jamie Smith (12 not out) guided Surrey home. Most especially after England’s Ollie Pope was dismissed cheaply again!
This dominant result puts Surrey up to that shiny second place in the County Championship Division One standings. With that, they are just a touch behind Nottinghamshire, while Somerset languish near the bottom.
Nottinghamshire Thrash Sussex to Top County Championship Table

Nottinghamshire produced a stunning nine-wicket victory over Sussex at Trent Bridge, with 17-year-old spinner Farhan Ahmed and explosive batter Ben Duckett starring. In a thrilling County Championship battle, Farhan Ahmed took 4-54 to wrap up Sussex’s second innings at 278.
Chasing 148 for victory, Nottinghamshire cruised thanks to Haseeb Hameed (62 not out) and Ben Duckett (59 not out from just 31 balls). Duckett showed off his prowess in his first match of the season, by showing off a smashing 23-ball fifty. His rapid scoring secured Nottinghamshire’s stay at the top of Division One after four matches.
With consistent form in his back-to-back fifties, Hameed also raised his status as a potential Test opener. Thus, offering more intrigue to England’s summer selections. Sussex’s Tom Haines, with 64 in defeat, still remains a top-scorer with 513 runs.
